Partners

The InnoVine consortium is composed of 27 partners combining the expertise of more than 100 grape and wine researchers or producers.  Partners come from 7 European countries concentrating most of the European vineyards surface and contrasted environmental, economic and societal conditions.

The teams involved cover a wide range of scientific disciplines in viticulture (e.g. grapevine genetics and breeding, physiology, ecology, epidemiology, pathology) and technical expertise in statistics, phenotyping, databases, modelling, DSS and development of monitoring devices. About half of the partnership is public, and half is composed of private organisations, including SMEs, a large winery company and a nursery cooperative.

Competences

Agri-Ciência was created in 2000 by a research and teaching group from two Portuguese universities. The team members are specialised in several areas which are intertwined and allow the company to provide services in areas such as: agricultural planning, economy and management, IT, databases and GIS. The main business activities of the company are related to information systems applied to agriculture: databases, websites, information management systems, precision agriculture, and decision support systems. AGRI-Ciência provides services related to agricultural planning at regional and farm levels, and is currently working with wireless communications applied to agriculture in their new Precision Vitivulture service i-Farm. With i- Farm we have developed an information system that gathers data from a set of phyto-sensors, for technicians to make more informed decisions. AGRI-Ciência is coordinates the FP7 project Premivm (www.premivm.eu) “Low-cost, hand-held, and non-invasive optical sensor for multiparametric field analysis of grapes and leaves in vineyards”, under grant agreement N°262011.

Role

Participates in WP5 - Develop Decision Support Systems (DSSs) for sustainable viticulture. Development of monitoring devices.


Luis Miguel Fernandes is an Agronomic Engineer with a post-graduation in Web-Design. He is an expert engineer dedicated to the development and deployment of on-line decision support systems for agriculture.


André Barriguinha is an Agricultural Engineer and Master of Science and Geographic Information Systems. He is an expert in the development of solutions of distributed geographic information systems, with applications in agriculture and forestry.

Material resources

Solid expertise in the field of web based decision support systems for the agricultural sector including the development of vineyards management software, irrigation scheduling optimization, crop protection early warning systems, land use potential evaluation, and knowledge management. To support the different DSS a data warehouse is maintained integrating crop characteristics and requirements, soil and weather data, production factors and equipment, crop production technical itineraries, energy and carbon balance, etc. linked with a GIS for geoprocessing operations. All the people working in the company have at least a degree in Agriculture. Over the time, and depending on the people´s skills and the client´s needs, the employees are encouraged to improve their knowledge by participating in courses, workshops, etc. The company is equipped with all the more up to date hardware and software.
