What are the different wines?

If you think that there is only red or white wine, you are wrong. Wine can be found in many different colours depending on what grapes were used and what process was used. It is interesting to see how different wines can taste and look. If you are interested in wine, you should try to taste as many different types as possible!

White wine

White wine is made from light-coloured grapes. The colour of the wine depends on the skin of the grape – the more skin that is removed, the lighter the wine will be. White wine can be dry or sweet and usually has an alcoholic content of 10-14%. White wine is one of the most popular wines and can be served with many different dishes. It goes particularly well with fish and poultry dishes. There are many different types of white wine, which vary depending on the country of origin and grape variety. Some of the most popular white wines are: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Grigio.

Blanc de Noir

A Blanc de Noir is a white wine made from dark grapes. “Blanc” means “white” and “noir” stands for black grapes. Most Blanc de Noirs are rosés, but there are also some whites. They usually have a light red colour and a fruity taste with notes of raspberries or strawberries.

Red wine

Red wine is the most popular wine in the world. It is made from red or blue grapes and is darker in colour than white wine. Red wine contains more polyphenols than white wine and is therefore healthier. There are different types of red wine, for example:

Cabernet Sauvignon

A strong and tannic red wine grown in France, Italy, Australia and the USA.

Merlot

A soft and fruity red wine grown in France, Italy, Australia and the USA.

Pinot Noir

A strong and fruity red wine grown in France and the USA.

Zinfandel

A strong and fruity red wine grown in the USA.

Rosé

Rosé wines are an incredibly popular wine, but what exactly is a rosé? This wine is a white wine made with red grapes. The history of rosé begins in the south of France, in Provence. Here, the first rosé wines were produced as early as the sixteenth century. Since then, the production of rosé has spread worldwide and there are now countless different varieties of this wine. Among the best known are, for example, the French rosé from Provence or the Italian Bardolino Chiaretto.

Dessert wine

Dessert wine, also known as custard wine, is a class of sweet wines served with dessert. As a rule, dessert wine contains more sugar and alcohol than traditional wines. Most dessert wines come from Europe; Germany, Italy and France produce most of the world’s crop. Dessert wines come in many different styles and can be dry or semi-dry wines. They range from light Moscato d’Asti to the sweeter, alcoholic Port wines. Sherries, Madeiras and Vermouths are also types of dessert wines.

Sparkling wine

Sparkling wine is a particularly popular wine made from a variety of grapes. The best known sparkling wines are Prosecco, Champagne and Cava. Sparkling wine is a carbonated drink and therefore contains more carbon dioxide than other wines.

Conclusion

In summary, there are different wines made from different grapes. The best known types are probably red and white wine, but rosé wine and sparkling wine are also popular. Each of these types of wine has its own special features and so you can choose the right wine for the occasion.
